The best way to start is to collect all the necessary biographical information about the person who has passed away and this can be done with a help of other family members, friends, co-workers. Writing eulogy poems usually do not follow a certain rigid format but a few sensible tips would be of great help.
But in any case funeral poems serve like an ode to the person who died. Some people opt for giving a serious speech about accomplishments achieved by the deceased in their lifetime, while others can decide to take on a more humorous tone remembering the fun times, the good memories and the laughter shared. Memorial poems are becoming more and more popular to remember a deceased friend some time later after losing a loved one.
But ensure it is not over whelming because it might upset the bereaving family. In the spirit of putting in a good word for the deceased, a eulogy will rarely dwell on any less attractive side of a person's life - a funeral is a time for positive thoughts, forgiveness and perhaps a little regret at lost opportunities; but traditionally it is not a time for accusations and controversy when the person is not in a position to come to his or her own defense. If you are asked to speak at a memorial or funeral service and are having a difficult time writing down how this loss has made you or the family feel, consider including a poem in your tribute.
I know some of what you are feeling right now which is why I wrote these articles. To be asked to deliver a memorial tribute is to be given the responsibility of assisting many.
